At the January meeting the group listened to a presentation given by Sue Hughes from the Spalding Gentleman’s Society, reporting on the Victorian History Group Project which is being undertaken by the Society. This project aims to produce the story of Spalding covering the environmental, social, educational, and economic history of the town from its beginning. Some of the history group members are themselves taking part researching into different subject areas of the project and reported what they had discovered to the group.

Next month Mr Patrick Wensor is coming to speak on “The Murder of Mrs Ives and the Last Man Hung in Spalding.” Should be interesting.

The group covers many different historical topics, from why we follow the traditions at Christmas that we do, what it was like to be one of the first female airline cabin crew to the rise of the Knights Templar in Europe.
