On the 28th of August starting at 5pm, 25 members of the Spalding U3A played Pétanque at the Bourne Abbey Lawn’s Pétanque Club on a lovely warm late summer’s evening.

For most of our members it was the first time they had played but with the help of Ghislaine Chalmers and her helpers, we were put into teams of three and soon learnt the rules moving around the piste playing games against a variety of members! 

Halfway through we had a tea and biscuit break to revitalise members for the next hour. Finally, we were finished and the winners Bruce Alexander, Phillip James and Mike Barnett were announced and received a bottle of French Bubbly and a Wooden Plaque with U3A Pétanque Club on it.

Afterwards members either went home or found somewhere to eat in Bourne.

We look forward to another game in 2025.
