What a perfect way to spend a summer's day "messing about on the river" or in our case gliding along the River Witham and the River Welland in the sunshine.
On the 15th of August 2024 fifty of us climbed aboard "The Boston Belle" at Boston Marina for the RSPB Bird Watching Cruise. We made ourselves comfortable so we could enjoy our 4-1/2 hour trip in the very capable hands of Rodney the Skipper of the boat and the RSPB Volunteers. They kept us informed of all the species of birds that flew or glided by and gave us a running commentary as we cruised along the two rivers hearing about all the interesting sights as we passed. We learnt at the end of our trip that we had seen 44 different types of birds and a vast number of basking seals on the mudflats.
It was such a relaxing day out, being so close to home, appreciating nature and just being able to switch off. This is a trip Spalding & District have done many times and has become a firm favourite. The blustery conditions did not deter our enjoyment. The sun was out, it was lovely and warm, we were surrounded by beautiful scenery while making new friends. What more do we ask for?
