Our U3A art groups were initially advertised as “Watercolours for the petrified” and were based upon the premise that people attending would not have any, or little, experience of watercolour painting. However 2 years on we have all developed our own styles, and with occasional visits from a local artist we are growing our skills.
Originally there were 2 sub groups, 'Art School 1' on each Monday and 'Art School 2' on each Wednesday, and both sub groups held their classes in Pinchbeck Community Hub. Since then 'Art School 1' has become the 'Monday Art Group' (this group) and 'Art School 2' has become the 'Wednesday Art Group'.
Terms run for 10 weeks or 12 weeks with each session designed to give members chance to learn from each other and share knowledge. A further aim is to have classes within an environment where new friendships can develop.
In the absence of a regular tutor we have been fortunate to have a local artist, Keith Talbot, from Bourne run a couple of workshops for us. Keith bought some of his portraits to show us and followed that by a workshop on drawing the head, which proved more of a challenge than we first thought. We looked at how to show depth of field especially in loose watercolour pictures. We then saw how to sketch movement of the human body. We have booked him to come back for more workshops in the following terms.

One of our challenges was to design and paint a postcard.
