We are a small friendly group who meet in one of our homes on the fourth Friday of the month, where we take it in turn to listen to and read poetry, and of course stop to have a cup of tea and a biscuit or two. All that reading is thirsty work.
It can be on any subject, just one we like to share with others, often relating to something in the news, the time of year or just an old favourite. We will discuss the poem, perhaps unsure of the phrasing or meaning, use of a particular word, and often moved by the sentiment.
The choice of poem, whether Kipling, Auden, Blake, Rossetti, or Pam Ayres, results in light-hearted discussion, recollections of school days or working life, prompted by a few lines that strike a chord.
Our poems are from our own bookshelves, replenished by those bought for a few pence from the charity shop or car boot sale, or on loan from the library. Perhaps one that caught our eye, printed in the paper, or one mentioned in a television programme, later sourced on the internet.

If you are a member of our u3a and would like to join this group or would like further details, please contact the group's leader (see the group information above). For non-members please contact the Groups Co-ordinator.
