Visit to Burn Valley Vineyard

On a warm and cloudless Friday in August, 12 members of the wine & cheese group made their way to Burn Valley vineyard in north Norfolk to sample its young and exciting produce.

The family-run vineyard was planted in 2016 and its wines have already won awards in national competitions. Our friendly and knowledgeable sommelier, Juanita, told us about the different varieties of grapes grown on site, explained some of the science behind cultivation, and described the annual cycle of growth, harvest and production. As Juanita talked, she poured six different samples of the end product for us to taste- 2 white, one rosé and three reds. We were also served delicious warm home made focaccia and olives.

After an opportunity to buy some of the produce, we drove north to the excellent Eric’s of Thornham for fish and chips, before heading home to perhaps imbibe one of our purchases.

An interesting and informative day.
